Youth Art Month Showcases Talents of the Johnson School Students

Youth Art Month, a nationally celebrated event, will be held during the month of March at the Nahant Public Library. This highly anticipated art exhibit aims to highlight the importance of quality art education while showcasing the exceptional talents of our students.

Organized by Nori Morganstein, Director of the Nahant Library, and Laura Petrovich-Cheney, Art Teacher, this community event is a testament to the dedication and creativity of Nahant’s children.

The in-person opening reception will take place on March 7 from 5:30-6:30 PM at the Nahant Library, located at 15 Pleasant Street. We cordially invite the community to attend this special occasion and view the remarkable artwork created by our talented students. The exhibit runs through April 2.

Kevin Andrews, Principal of the Johnson Elementary School, emphasizes the significance of art in the students’ lives. Throughout the year, the students have been actively engaged in various art forms, including painting, drawing, writing, and music. This event at the local library serves as a platform to showcase their achievements. “At Johnson, we prioritize providing our students with diverse outlets to express their thoughts and emotions, whether it be through writing, music, sports, or art, “states Mr. Andrews.

Mrs. Cheney, the dedicated art teacher, strives to create adaptable lessons that cater to students of all ages, abilities, and strengths. She firmly believes that every child can learn and succeed with proper guidance, authentic encouragement, and joyful inspiration. The visual arts provide a means for students to express themselves, serving as a mirror to their imagination and a reflection of the world around them.

Nori Morganstein, the esteemed director of the historic Nahant Public Library, warmly welcomed the opportunity to display the students’ artwork. As the state’s third oldest public library, founded in 1819, the Nahant Library remains committed to serving its community of 3,500 residents. Ms. Morganstein, representing the library, eagerly celebrates the talents of our children while enriching the community with their beautiful art.
