Nahant Reads Together: An Object of Beauty/Braiding Sweetgrass

March 19, 2022 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

UPDATE: today’s lecture with Chief Sachem Fisher is CANCELLED due to a family emergency on his end. We will reschedule. Our apologies for the inconvenience.
We will continue with the next programs next Saturday (3/26), a book discussion and chat about art and nature with Sharon at 4:00.

Let’s talk about how Western art and Native artifact intersect here at Nahant Public Library. Copies of both books are available to borrow, whether you have a library card or not. Stop by!

At 4:00 on March 19, Sachem Larry Fisher will speak with us on Native tribes in the area today as well as historically. Sachem Fisher, who traditionally bears the ancestral name of many of his ancestors (Wampatuck), serves as the Tribal Council Chief Sachem for the Mattakeeset Tribal band of the Massachuset Indian Nation since 2014. The Massachuset Indians were the ones who used Nahant for part of the year for fishing, and many fishing-related artifacts reside at Nahant Public Library.
