Nahant Reads Together: Our Town — Treasures from the 1819 Book Collection

March 25, 2023 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Join us in reading the play that you probably read in high school. Read with new, adult eyes — it takes less than 2 hours! — and see if it has new meaning. You can borrow a copy from us, with or without a library card. Bring it back whenever you finish and we will pass it on to the next reader. Return for programs March 11, 18, and 25, 4:00 at the library. All programs are free.

Today’s program: join Sharon for a presentation on the “ten thousand” books that began the Nahant Library, creating one of the oldest municipal library collections in Massachusetts, and therefore the country. Learn about William Wood and his vision, along with the dozens of people who donated books to make it happen. Yes, it takes a village to make a library! This project is made possible thanks to Community Preservation Act funding to photograph the books.
