Johnson School Youth Art Month Art Reception

February 27, 2025 @ 5:30 pm - 6:30 pm

Johnson Elementary School is thrilled to announce the return of its highly acclaimed Youth Art Month Exhibition, hosted at the Nahant Library, located at 15 Pleasant Street, Nahant, MA 01908. The exhibition kicks off with an opening reception on Thursday, February 27, from 5:00–6:30 PM. The entire community is invited to attend.

The exhibition will run from February 27 through March 27, 2025, and will be open during regular library hours. Nori Morganstein, Director of the Nahant Library, expressed her enthusiasm for hosting the event once again, stating, “We received lots of positive feedback about the artwork and the reception. People really enjoy looking at the students’ artwork.”

Youth Art Month (YAM) is celebrated nationally each March to highlight the importance of visual art education in fostering creativity, self-expression, and global citizenship. Laura Petrovich-Cheney, the art teacher at Johnson Elementary, is thrilled to share her students’ work with the community. She shared, “Art gives students a way to express themselves and share their thoughts without needing words—it’s that moment where they can really connect with who they are. For me, teaching and encouraging creativity is so exciting; it’s what I love most about what I do.”

This year’s exhibition will feature a special highlight: the unveiling of the Johnson Elementary School mascot, the blue lobster, drawn by 5th-grade student Mary DiLisio. The selection process was a collaborative effort between the school’s new superintendent, Robert Liebow; principal Kevin Andrews; library teacher Heidi Fiore; 5th-grade teacher Kayla Harrington; and Nahant native and lobsterman Tucker Allard. Mary’s original drawing will take center stage at the exhibition. The talented artist Mary says “It was great to be part of this project and I’m honored that my design was chosen.”

Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to celebrate the creativity and talent of Johnson Elementary students while supporting the arts in the community.
