Here is the link to the talk on Nahant Library’s 1819 book collection. Thank you to everyone who helped with research and a friendly ear as we pulled information from across the country (and one document from Liverpool!) . William Wood’s founding of the Nahant Library — his first of many library projects — was the result of hard work and the donations of Nahanters, Boston Brahmins, businessmen, authors, students, and anyone who thought that the idea of a municipal library was important. And as long as Americans think books and reading on a wide range of subjects is important to the education of the citizenry, public libraries will continue to thrive.
