Let’s begin a new Nahant Reads Together, a time to read and reflect on issues of our day. In tandem with a grant project to better describe and interpret the Library’s art and artifacts, we ask you to read one novel and parts of one series of essays. In An Object of Beauty, read about the commercialism of the art world, where nature is painted and beauty is for sale. In Braiding Sweetgrass, we learn a different way of finding the beauty in nature, and a culture of giving and receiving freely. Is one naive? Is the other one ruinous? Let’s talk.

We will also have lectures, a book discussion, and the opportunity to watch a video on art history via Kanopy. The books are available now at the main desk. A library card is not needed for this special checkout. Start reading!

This activity is part of an “Artifacts in Your Library” grant, funded by the federal Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA), and administered by the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners.
