Last night, the people of Nahant spoke with a clear and resounding voice.
By an overwhelming vote of 270 to 20, Town Meeting approved the Library Project and the appropriation needed to unlock $3 million in private funding for the restoration of the Nahant Public Library.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Special Town Meeting. Thank you to those who spoke in support of the project. Thank you to the Friends of the Library, our volunteers, advocates, donors, and neighbors who worked so hard over many months to make this possible. And thank you to all who cast a vote, whether in favor or not, for participating in this important community decision.
This vote was about much more than funding a building. It was a statement about who we are as a community and what we value. The Nahant Public Library is not only one of our town’s most important historic buildings; it is a vital community resource that serves residents of all ages every day. Last night’s vote demonstrates Nahant’s commitment to preserving and strengthening that resource for future generations.
At the same time, that vote is not an ending. It is a beginning. The restoration project will secure and renew a beloved historic building, but our broader vision is to create a library that fully serves the needs of a 21st-century community. Realizing that vision will require ongoing engagement, volunteerism, advocacy, ideas, and participation from across the community. The future of the Nahant Public Library does not depend on a small group of people. It depends on all of us. Each of us has a role to play.
Last night, Nahant demonstrated what is possible when a community comes together around a shared purpose. There is still much work ahead, but thanks to you, we move forward with renewed confidence, tremendous momentum, and an exciting vision for the future.
