Town Administrator Antonio Barletta is pleased to report that the Town of Nahant will receive a $15,000 grant to study the feasibility of using renewable energy at the Nahant Public Library.

The $15,000 Municipal Energy Technical Assistance (META) Grant, provided by the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources (DOER) will fund a consultant who will research whether renewable thermal energy resources can be used at the Nahant Public Library.

“This is very exciting. The library’s HVAC system has been in long need of an overhaul and the idea that we could do it in a responsible, sustainable manner with green technology would be such a win for the Nahant Public Library and for the town,” Board of Library Trustees Chair Chris Stevens said.

The work will be completed by Sept. 20. The research is the first step in a possible initiative to use renewable energy resources at the library.

“We are grateful for this support from the Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs and the Department of Energy Resources,” said Town Administrator Barletta. “This grant will help us take a step toward reducing our dependence on fossil fuels and toward reducing the town’s carbon footprint.”

META grants provide funding for independent third parties to help municipalities, regional school districts and water/wastewater districts negotiate, develop and manage energy projects across the state, or to perform studies in support of the development of such projects.
